About Us
Camilla Greenwood (Millie) has had a passion for horses from a very early age – fortunate to grow up on the family farm in Somerset Millie was able to participate in all the Pony Club and hunting activities learning a wide range of equine skills, and most importantly “empathy” with horses. Lucky enough to hunt with some of the best packs of hounds in the country over varied terrain, including the Exmoor Foxhounds and the Devon and Somerset staghounds, where Millie learnt the skills of riding on some of the roughest and steepest terrains at high speed where pin sharp understanding of your pony or horse was essential.
Millie was educated at Kings Hall and Kings College, Taunton, moving from there completing her education in Ireland through a HND and Equine Studies Business Management Degree at Enniskillen Collage, Northern Ireland. Millie was very much involved with the racing yard and had the chance to take out her Point-to-Point Licence, which unfortunately didn’t happen for long after sustaining a serious back injury in an early race. As part of the HND course, Millie did a year’s work placement at Windsor Park Stud, New Zealand. Here Millie was given the opportunity to be involved in the racing yard, preparing horses for racing and the two-year-old Breeze up sales. This included the yearling Sales preparation and attending the sales at Karaka Sales complex.
From there Millie was very fortunate to work for Seamus Burns, Lodge Park Stud, Kilkenny. This involved the sales preparation for Goffs, Ireland and Tattersalls, Newmarket, Book 1 and 2. During this time Millie was lucky enough to be involved with the sales of New Approach and a filly at Newmarket selling for several million.
After College Millie worked for David Christie for 2 years and was involved with turning an Old Dairy farm into a racing and Point-to-point yard. Before returning to the UK to work for William Harrison-Allan, Baycliffe Farm for nearly 10 years before starting a family. Millie managed the farm and was involved with all the breaking and pre-training of his horses to go into training with Paul Nicholls, Alan King, Brian Meehan, Rod Millman and David Elsworth are just a few to mention. Here at Baycliffe Millie was given the opportunity to train the Point-to-point horses with several winners and placed horses. Most Memorable of these being Shooters Wood, who won his maiden at Ston Easton before then winning a Hunter Chase at the May Cheltenham meeting. Shooters Wood went on to win several races while based at Paul Nicholls, after Millie did all the pre-training preparation.
Other notable horse pre-trained by Millie was Aim to Prosper who was the only horse in history to win two Cesarewitch, trained by Brian Meehan in 2010 and 2012. Millie played a particularly key part in getting the horse back and fit and well to win the second. Other horses that won good races include Bull and Bush, trained by Alan King and Agent Murphy, trained by Brian Meehan – the later won his first two starts and went on to be a very good horse.
Millie is not afraid of hard work, and is a highly dedicated horse professional – having had her own battle with breast cancer in 2018/19 Millie is even more determined to make a success of her own business dedicated to horses involved, or who show the promise to be, racing. Millie is in the process of applying for a permit to be able to run her own horses under rules, this process takes time and has been delayed by Coronovirus in 2020.
Millie is married to Toby, together they have two children (both already pony mad!); Millie is based at Parsonage Farm, Horningsham – Toby’s Uncle’s farm (John Whatley) set on 560 acres, on the edge of the Longleat Estate, with excellent riding opportunities. Added to this the Whatley family have horses steeped in their history including point-to-pointers, and racehorses over the years. Toby’s parents also trained point-to-pointers, and were involved with horses all their lives.
